Cake #2....

Here is cake #2.... the final product of our 2nd cake class. We learned how to do the flowers in royal icing.. the kind that hardens.. and the bird in colorflow.. kind of like royal but it dries kind of poufy. We also learned how to do the basket weave. Don't mind the right side of my cake, I smooshed with by boob while trying to carry it out to the car and protect it from the rain!  On to fondant!!

The Big 28.....

Apparently, I was mistaken... this is not an official movie poster. But still delicious!

It was my birthday on Friday and Luke surprised me with a mini-getaway to SLC for a night. We stayed at this really cute hotel called Hotel Monaco. It's right downtown across from the Capitol Theatre. I absolutely love the wallpaper. I told Luke we should do our room like that but he wasn't too keen on the idea! They had these cool leopard print robes instead of the usual white. I wanted Luke to strike a sexy pose in it to post but he didn't like that idea either!
For dinner we went to Flemings, a steak house in the Gateway. It was super-yummy and they gave me a little box of chocolate covered strawberries because it was my birthday! Score! I had a great birthday, thanks Luke!!

This was the little entry to our room (below). It was so cute. I love the funky stool. There were a couple of cute chairs I could have stolen, too!

A Few Things...

I've been a blog slacker lately but I haven't really had anything to blog about. I could take some pics of me watching TV and post it but something tells me that wouldn't really interest any of you!

The other day I was watching TV in my room when Logan woke up from his nap. He walks in and says, "Mom, it smells like Dad in here."
Me: "Really? Well, Dad's still at work."
Logan takes a big whiff then, "It stinks!!"
I can take this one of two ways... either Logan thinks Luke stinks or because I was the only one in the room, I stink. Hmmm...

Below is a picture of Logan playing in the sink. I thought it was funny because he did this for at least 30 minutes... just pouring water from one cup to the other. The things that entertain kids sometimes!!

Alicia and I have been taking a cake decorating class at Michaels. We've just finished the first course so I figured I'd post the results. This is the cake we made on our last night. Let me just say that I'm not crafty, artsy, or creative in any way so I thought I did pretty good!!
Those roses are freakin hard to make!! They look semi-respectable in the picture but in person they looked a bit misshapen.
The cake below is a random cake I made in the middle of the class to practice how to make the cake smooth and to practice writing. Yeah, I need more practice.

Nap Time.....

I went upstairs to wake Logan up from his nap and this is what I found. He's all wrapped up with his anaconda, which is actually supposed to be an eel that we got at the aquarium in SLC. He saw the Go Diego Go episode with Ana the Anaconda and decided it was an anaconda. Lately he's decided that bringing toys to bed is the only way he can fall asleep. What a funny kid.

Great Skin Cream....

A while ago I picked up one of Bare Minerals starter foundation kits. It had a free trial size of this face cream.... I must say it's amazing. My face is really dry on the chin and nose area. I also had some redness on my chin and around my nose that was getting worse as time wore on. Nothing I tried seemed to make it any better.

I decided to give this cream a try. What a difference!! The redness is almost totally gone and my face isn't nearly as dry. You just put the cream on first, then moisturizer, then make-up. It's working much better than moisturizer alone and it doesn't make me break out! Wooo!

1855 miles.....

1855 miles.... that's how far Luke, Logan and I have driven in a little over a week. That's about 28 hours, people!!! Luke had to go to Pasadena then Mesa for work. He was supposed to be gone for 2 weeks so Logan and I went with him. I really don't think I could handle 2 weeks alone with a 2 year old... I'm just not cut out to be a single mother.

Anyway, we were off to Pasadena first, stopping in Vegas for a night to break up the drive for Logan. While we were there we took Logan to the LA zoo, which was actually pretty nice! After the zoo we drove down Hollywood and Sunset boulevards. (Below is a church just above Hollywood Blvd. that I thought had some neat architecture.) Then we went to Beverly Hills where we drove past the Playboy Mansion (there were massive hedges all around the property so we could only see the very top of the house :-( oh well!) and I made Luke drive down Rodeo Drive so I could catch a glimpse of high society!

On our last night in Pasadena, Logan was up all night throwing up. The next morning we debated staying in Pasadena one more day to let Logan feel better or just getting on with the drive. He hadn't thrown up in a while so we decided to just get the drive over with. We arrive in Mesa with no car puke incidents, woohoo!

The next morning Luke meets with the people he is supposed to be working with all of the next week. They inform him that the site isn't ready and they won't need him for at least a couple more weeks. Seriously??? We drove all the way to Mesa for nothing. If we would have stayed in Pasadena one more night we could have skipped the Mesa trip all together! On the plus side we didn't have to live in a hotel for another week.

I have to say that I'm so proud of Logan!! He did amazing.. he just watched his shows in the backseat with almost no complaining. Really the only time he started to get a little whiney was at the end of our 3rd straight day in the car... even I was getting a little whiney at that point!

So that's the story of our 1855 mile road trip!

Below is the ingenious device that Luke built to strap our portable DVD player to the middle console. As you can see, it even has a place to store some DVD's so I didn't have to keep reaching into the backseat! I love it!!
